SCC Greens endorse Raymond Goins
The Green Party of Santa Clara County has endorsed Raymond Goins for Palo Alto City Council.
SCC Greens made a decision to endorse Mr. Goins at a September 24th monthly membership meeting. Raymond is affiliated with the Peace and Freedom Party and a member of Democratic Socialists of America. According to our principles and the rules adopted by the Green Party of California, our county party only considers endorsements of candidates who reject corporate and superPAC donations AND are unaffiliated with any political parties that accept such donations.
Raymond clearly meets our criteria and is running a grassroots campaign for Palo Alto City Council primarily on the platform of making Palo Alto more livable and to work in service to the people. He has been a community organizer with Silicon Valley DeBug against the carceral state and youth incarceration authoring articles on these issue.
Other areas of focus in Goins’ platform include affordable housing for all and public transit that actually works. Raymond represented the Coalition for Justice and Accountability in the August 10th council meeting speaking out about recent incidents of hate symbols in Palo Alto including swastikas and anti-black graffiti. “I want to represent the voiceless of Palo Alto and those that are being marginalized by Palo Alto and fight from a community aspect for what’s right.”
Palo Alto is a city with an especially wide income and wealth gap. The city council needs representation for all constituents. Raymond Goins will provide a much needed grounding perspective to the council. His experiences as an Uber driver, a community organizer and advocate, and as someone who the juvenile justice system had failed as a teenager will enrich Palo Alto governance.
