2024

4/5/24 – GPSCC endorses AB-2200 Guaranteed Health Care for All (Kalra) – Improving upon AB 1400 from the last legislative session, which was also endorsed by GPSCC, Calcare (AB-2200) would guarantee comprehensive, high-quality health care for all Californians as a human right.

3/28/24 – GPSCC endorses the Banking on Climate Chaos 2024 Report – This report investigates how bank funding for fossil fuels drives the destructive impact of this industry on the lives and livelihoods of people and communities around the world. Indigenous Peoples, Black and Brown communities, and poor and working-class communities are first and worst harmed by fossil fuel industries.

1/20/24 – GPSCC signs on to a Letter Calling on States to Support South Africa’s Genocide Convention Case Against Israel at the ICJ – the letter was proposed by a large group of organizations including the Black Alliance for Peace, the Palestinian Assembly for Liberation, Popular Resistance, CODEPINK, Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN), Veterans for Peace, Gaza Freedom Flotilla, World Beyond War, and many more. 14 Green parties also signed on to this letter.

2023

11/17/23 – GPSCC endorses Dr. Jill Stein as Green Party nominee for President, see our announcement here. The Green Party of the United States nominates its Presidential candidate at its Presidential Nominating Convention according to the GP-US bylaws and rules.

10/26/23 – GPSCC calls for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine.
– The Green Party of Santa Clara County demands that the U.S. administration and all our Federal, State, and local representatives to participate in the international effort to provide humanitarian aid to Palestine; to immediately stop all U.S. funding to the Israeli government; demand that Israel conform to international laws and the Geneva Convention and to end its illegal occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories, and to restore the right of Palestinian people to self-determination as stipulated in U.N. resolutions.

10/26/23 – The membership of GPSCC decides to reverse their endorsement of Dr. Cornel West as Presidential Nominee due to Dr. West no longer seeking the Green Party nomination and running as an independent candidate. 

8/31/23 – GPSCC endorses the Rescue Pacifica slate of candidates for the Pacifica Local Station Board by unanimous consensus.

8/31/23 – GPSCC endorses Sean Dougherty for Congressional District 19 by unanimous consensus.

7/27/23 – GPSCC endorses Dr. Cornel West for Green Party Nominee for President. The Green Party of United States nominates its Presidential candidate at its Presidential Nominating Convention according to the GP-US bylaws and rules. Learn more here.

4/27/23 – GPSCC endorses the Interim Housing Project at the corner of Benton Street and Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara which will have 30 family units to house 120 people, joining many advocacy organizations including neighborhood organizers The Santa Clara Housing Advocates.

2/27/23 – GPSCC endorses the Real Emergency Access for
Aging and Disability Inclusion (REAADI) Act and Disaster Relief Medicaid Act (DRMA)
. These disability and disaster legislation will dismantle barriers faced by disaster-impacted people with disabilities, older adults, people with access and functional needs, and other Medicaid-eligible people impacted by disasters. See List of supporters.

2/23/23 – GPSCC endorses the Answer Coalition March 18 rally: Fund People’s Needs, Not the War Machine. At least 30 other Green Party organizations also endorsed including Green Party of United States and the Green Party of California.

2022

9/26/22 – GPSCC endorses the ProRep Coalition with a mission to create multi-party democracy in California through education and coalition-building for Proportional Representation. 

6/23/22 – GPSCC joins the Santa Clara County Single Payer Health Care Coalition’s “HealthCare is a Human Right” contingent and participates in the Rose White and Blue 4th of July event.

4/28/22 – GPSCC endorses AB 2053 Social Housing Act, which establishes the California Housing Authority for the purposes of developing mixed-income social housing. We support the bill’s ownership and rental models, mixed-income projects, democratic resident decision-making, and protection of properties from ever being sold to private, speculators, and for-profit entities. 4/28/22 – GPSCC endorses AB 2649 Natural Carbon Sequestration and Resilience Act of 2022, targets the removal of an additional 60 million metric tons (MMT) of carbon dioxide by 2030, and increases that target to 75 MMT CO2e annually by 2035., through non-technological Natural Carbon Sequestration with removal and storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide equivalents by vegetation and soils on natural, working, and urban lands.  Bill, Fact Sheet.

4/28/22 – GPSCC signs on to a letter to the De Anza College Board of Trustees regarding the college’s sponsored “Jewish Inclusion and Anti-Semitism Community Education Events”, including an event where speakers equated criticism of Israel with antisemitism. We oppose this biased and flawed definition of antisemitism that silences legitimate criticism of Israel, conflates Jews with Israelis, and threatens constitutionally protected speech for all.

4/12/22 – GPSCC opposes the Sargent Quarry Project and in support of Protect Juristac – in a letter of opposition to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Santa Clara County Planning Commission.

3/31/22 – GPSCC signs on to a letter to Santa Clara County Justice Agencies to Reduce Jail Population To Standards Called for by Public Health Officials Before Alternatives To Incarceration Work Group Begins. Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted on Jan 25th to build a new county maximum security jail, and before the work of their approved “Alternatives to Incarceration” (ATI) workgroup is done. Sponsored by SV-DeBug, De-Bug San Jose.

3/21/22 – GPSCC opposes AB 2808 the proposed ban on Ranked Choice Voting – Despite the proven benefits of RCV including significant cost savings, this bill proposed a ban on all RCV including RCV already implemented through ballot measures in various jurisdictions. Bill. Held without recommendation; suspended

3/11/22 – GPSCC endorses Measure B, the City of San José ballot measure to move the mayoral election to presidential years, increasing voter turnout by an estimated 30% from among less represented communities for this important election.

2/24/22 – GPSCC endorses SB1173 on Public retirement systems: fossil fuels: divestments – The bill prohibits the CA Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and the Teachers’ System (STRS) from making any new investments or renewing existing investments in a fossil fuel company, and requires they liquidate all fossil fuel investments by July 1, 2030. 1/27/22 – GPSCC endorses the Disability Inclusion and Equity Pledge created by Michele Mashburn, GPSCC County Council member, and later adopted by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

2021

12/16/21 – GPSCC endorses the SanctionsKill campaign to object to governmental sanctions that primarily hurt citizenry, not the offending government.

9/20/21 – GPSCC endorses Green Candidate Dan Kapelovitz for California Governor, should the recall proposition pass.

9/20/21 – GPSCC opposes the CA Gubernatorial Recall ballot proposition.

5/27/21 – GPSCC opposes AB 1139 as it is a disingenuous attempt by California’s Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) to guarantee and expand their monopoly control over the existing centralized electrical energy system. Bill, Letter of opposition. Bill died on 2/1/2022 on inactive file.

4/29/21 – GPSCC opposes SB 380 which aims to repeal the existing End Of Life Options Act (EOLOA) sunset of year 2026 on physician-assisted suicide.  We urge the State to instead direct fiscal and administrative resources to address the broad lack of access to medical and mental health care for vulnerable front-line workers and all underserved communities. 3/31/21 – GPSCC endorses AB 1400, the California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act to establish a single-payer health care system in California, called CalCare. We strongly support a single-payer healthcare system, similar to “Medicare For All” that is publicly administered and remove all profit motives from healthcare payment systems. Pulled by the author to reintroduce 2023; on hold

3/31/21 – GPSCC endorses AB 1177, California Public Banking Option Act, in support of creating a California BankCal. Bill, Legislative analysis.

1/28/21 – GPSCC signs on to the International joint statement “No to Yemen War”- demanding that right now our governments:  Stop foreign aggression on Yemen – Stop weapons and war support for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates – Lift the blockade on Yemen and open all land and seaports – Restore and expand humanitarian aid for the people of Yemen.

2020

7/23/20 – GPSCC endorses AB 310, California Public Banking Bill to address COVID 19 economic recovery

7/11/20 – GPSCC reaffirmed endorsement of the Move to Amend initiative.

5/28/20 – GPSCC endorses AB 3075 (Wage enforcement) that prevents companies who don’t pay wage theft judgments from reopening under a new name to avoid paying the wages they owe.

3/23/20 – GPSCC signs on to a letter to the San José City Council to include Universal Design in the 2020 budget, by Michele Mashburn, GPSCC County council in support of inclusion of People With disabilities needs in city planning.


2019

10/29/19 – GPSCC endorses the Schools and Communities First Initiative to close the commercial property tax loophole.

8/30/19 – GPSCC endorses Green Candidate, Jake Tonkle for San José City Council District 6 in the November General Election.

5/30/19 – GPSCC signs the  letter of support to propose environmentally focused recommendations for the San Jose General Plan 4-Year Review Scope.

4/27/19- GPSCC opposes SB 386 to save SB 100 (previously endorsed), by singing on to a letter by Mothers Out Front.

3/23/19 – GPSCC endorses AB 392 that facilitates the establishment of regional and municipal public banks throughout California.

3/21/19 – GPSCC endorses AB 857 that facilitates the establishment of regional and municipal public banks throughout California.

3/7/19 – GPSCC signs the petition by California Alliance for Community Energy Roll Back the CPUC Attack on Our Communities!

2/1/19 – GPSCC endorses the Amah Mutsun petition to Santa Clara County to protect Juristac and deny any permits for quarry on Amah Mutsun sacred Grounds.

GPSCC positions on the November 2018 CA Ballot Proposition

Proposition 1 GPSCC VOTE YES with reservations – SB 3 (Chapter 365, Statutes of 2017), Beall. Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2018.

Proposition 2 GPSCC: VOTE YES with reservations – AB 1827 (Chapter 41, Statutes of 2018). Committee on Budget. No Place Like Home Act of 2018.

Proposition 3 – GPSCC: VOTE NO – Authorizes Bonds to Fund Projects for Water Supply and Quality, Watershed, Fish, Wildlife, Water Conveyance, and Groundwater Sustainability and Storage. Initiative Statute.

Proposition 4 – GPSCC: VOTE YES with reservations – Authorizes Bonds Funding Construction at Hospitals Providing Children’s Health Care. Initiative Statute.

Proposition 5 – GPSCC: VOTE NO – Changes Requirements for Certain Property Owners to Transfer Their Property Tax Base to Replacement Property. Initiative Constitutional Amendment and Statute.

Proposition 6 – GPSCC: VOTE NO – Eliminates Recently Enacted Road Repair and Transportation Funding by Repealing Revenues Dedicated for Those Purposes. Requires Any Measure to Enact Certain Vehicle Fuel Taxes and Vehicle Fees Be Submitted to and Approved by the Electorate. Initiative Constitutional Amendment.

8/3/18 – GPSCC signs a pledge of support for California Public Banking by the South Bay Progressive Alliance’s Public Banking Action Team.

4/10/18 – GPSCC signs on to the letter by Affordable Housing Network to oppose SB 827 unless amended.

3/25/18 – GPSCC endorses Green Candidate, Jake Tonkle for San José City Council District 6 in the March Primary Election.

3/22/18 – GPSCC endorses the City of Santa Clara’s Measure A for Ranked Choice Voting.

6/30/17 – GPSCC endorses AB 249, The California Disclose Act, the new version of AB 14 and a follow up of 2016 AB 700.

5/8/17 – GPSCC endorses SB 416, a bill preventing Elder Abuse through Isolation.

3/28/17 – GPSCC endorses SB 562 (Anderson), Healthy California Act for a single payer guaranteed healthcare coverage for all Californians.

3/21/17 – GPSCC makes recommendations on the San Jose Clean Energy Initiative and Community Choice Aggregation program.

2/16/17 – GPSCC signs on to the letter in support of Rule 12-16 by Silicon Valley Climate Action Alliance’s urging the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to define and limit refinery emissions in the East Bay.
